Joe Butcher has worked on a variety of projects as a Sound Designer for Film, Theatre, Museum Exhibits and more recently Video Games. His credits include work on three original touring pieces; Tinderbox (2015), The Fisherman’s Daughter (2017) and Mary Anning Lost in Time (2021) for AsOne Theatre company. In 2020 he collaborated with Story Futures Academy of immersive storytelling, where he developed Refugeescapes a Binaural 3D journey featuring poet Amina Atiq, for a new exhibit at Imperial War Museum. He has since continued to practice developing immersive stories for museums and galleries, where a number of his works are now installed at The Nothe Fort in Weymouth. While completing a Masters Degree: Innovation in Sound at dBs Institute of Sound & Digital Technologies in Bristol, Joe worked with dBs Pro studio implementing 3D audio for Unreal Engine on Charisma Ai’s The Kraken Wakes video game. As a music producer under the alias Butcher, Joe is known for crafting, striking Techno tracks for night club DJs using his own samples, combining foley work with FM synthesis, impulse response and convolution reverb.
Fluent with DAW software; Pro Tools, Ableton Live & Reaper, combined with adaptive middleware like Fmod & Wwise. Joe has proven he can research, develop & implement high quality audio for a variety of creative applications. A sensitive understanding of audio mixing & mastering is proven in the quality of his creative assets.
Joe graduated from Bath Spa University, with a BA in Commercial Music, & later an MA Innovation in Sound at dBs Institute of Sound & Digital Technologies in Bristol.
